**Ukraine Uses Sport Planes to Attack Russian Targets**
The Ukrainian military has used modified sport planes, called A-22s, to attack Russian forces in Chechnya. The attacks were carried out with the help of a strike drone program.
On December 15, four explosions rocked military facilities in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya. This was not the first time that Ukraine had used its modified A-22 planes for this kind of attack. According to an analyst from Forbes, David Axe, these planes have been used since the beginning of this year.
**Modified Sport Planes Used as Drones**
The Ukrainian intelligence agency has been modifying the A-22 sport planes into one-way strike drones. These drones can fly up to 800 miles with extra fuel and guidance systems. They were also equipped with explosive payloads.
**Range and Power Limitations**
Axe noted that while the A-22 drones have a long range, they lack penetration power compared to other types of missiles. This is because they sacrifice speed for range. However, this may not be a problem when targeting vulnerable areas.
**Targeting Strategy**
The Ukrainian military focuses on using these modified sport planes to target softer and more distant targets. They reserve their more powerful missiles like the Storm Shadow for harder and closer targets.
This attack in Grozny was likely carried out against forces led by Ramzan Kadyrov, who has been actively supplying personnel for Russia’s war against Ukraine. The location of Chechnya is over 800 kilometers from the war zone in Ukraine.
