Forbes reports that Russian forces are trying to encircle in Selydove as part of larger offensive against the strategic city Pokrovsk, located in eastern Ukraine’s .
Over the past year, Russia has focused on seizing Ukraine’s controlled areas in Donetsk Oblast. Major attacks have been repeated near Pokrovsk and Selydove as well as other towns. Russia uses frontal assault tactics to incur heavy losses, but continues to make progress.
Forbes reports that the Ukrainian was faced with a difficult decision in August, when Russian forces began to advance from Avdiivka towards Pokrovsk. The majority of elite units were en route to Russia’s Oblast, and commanders had difficulty equipping 14 new brigades. They decided to deploy the Kara Dag Brigade from the interior to the Pokrovsk area.
The 2,000-strong Kara Dag Brigade is one of seven “offensive” guard brigades that were formed in . They have been defending Selydove located 13 kilometers south of Pokrovsk. The unit has used explosive drones, and conducted block-byblock combat with Kozak armored vehicles. However, it struggles against larger and more equipped Russian motor rifle regiments of the 2nd Combined Arms .
