**Russia’s Kursk Counteroffensive Hits Snags**
Russian forces have been suffering heavy casualties in their counteroffensive against Ukraine’s 250-square-mile salient in western Russia’s Kursk Oblast. Despite recapturing about half the lost territory, they have little to show for it so far.
According to analysts at Forbes, Russian tactics in the area are rigid and based on faulty intelligence. As a result, their attacks are predictable, and Ukrainian defenses are able to inflict heavy losses. The Russians have been attacking along three main roads through the settlement of Zeleny Shlyakh, but their efforts have been met with resistance from Ukrainian troops.
**Ukrainian Defenses Hold Firm**
A Ukrainian drone operator supporting the defense of Kursk reported that Russian forces attack daily with armored fighting vehicles, often in groups of four to six. However, they are consistently being blown up by mines, artillery, missiles, drones, and tanks deployed by Ukrainian units.
The Ukrainian 17th Heavy Mechanized Brigade, among other units, has been able to hold back the Russian advances. Graphic drone footage shows several BTR-82 vehicles from the Russian 810th Naval Infantry Brigade being destroyed at close range by dug-in Ukrainian troops around the village of Pogrebki.
