**Ukraine Repurposes Old Jets to Bomb Russian Targets**
The Ukrainian air force has found a way to use old Sukhoi Su-25 jets in a new way. Instead of using them for close combat, the planes are now being used as precision bombers.
According to footage from the Ukrainian Air Force, the Su-25s have been fitted with French-made AASM Hammer glide bombs. This allows them to strike targets far away without having to get too close. The planes can fly low and fast to avoid Russian air defenses and then release their bombs at the last moment.
**Su-25s Not Alone in Upgrading**
The Ukrainian Air Force is not just upgrading its Su-25s. Other types of aircraft, like MiG-29 fighters and Su-24 bombers, are also being fitted with precision munitions. Even newer planes, such as Lockheed Martin F-16s, will be compatible with these bombs.
**Pilots Use Smart Tactics**
The Ukrainian pilots who fly the upgraded planes use clever tactics to avoid getting shot down. They fly low and fast towards the front line and then release their bombs at the last moment.
**Success Despite Challenges**
Despite losing some aircraft, Ukraine has been able to preserve its air assets. The country had 43 operational Su-25s at the start of the war and received more from North Macedonia and Bulgaria. Now, only about 41 Su-25s remain in service.
