Professor Says Trump’s Foreign Policy May Face Challenges
According to Daniel Drezner, a US professor of international politics, President Donald Trump‘s efforts to improve the country’s global standing may be difficult. This is despite Trump’s claims that he can end wars quickly and strengthen America‘s foreign policy framework.
Trump has been criticized for his handling of conflicts in the past. During his 2024 campaign, he claimed that the previous administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan had damaged US credibility worldwide. However, Drezner suggests that a similar outcome in Russia’s war against Ukraine could create similar problems for Trump.
The professor points out that global politics have changed since Trump first took office. Many countries are now more independent and assertive, forming alliances to challenge the US. For example, China, North Korea, and Iran have formed an alliance with Russia to disrupt the world order.
Additionally, Drezner notes that Trump is now a well-known figure on the world stage. His actions can be predicted, unlike in 2016 when he presented himself as somewhat mysterious. This makes it harder for him to take bold or unexpected steps in foreign policy.
Drezner’s comments come amid rising global tensions and conflicts, including the war in Ukraine and disputes in the Middle East. He suggests that Trump will find it challenging to withdraw the US from these conflicts quickly, contrary to his campaign promises.
