The Foreign Relations Committee discussed the Hague Convention of 30 June 2005 on Agreements on the Choice of Court as well as the draft laws on Private International Law, Civil Procedure Code and the Hague Convention.
Tornike Cherishvili, the deputy minister of justice and the report’s author, notes that the EUAA agenda stipulates that the recognition of the Convention as mandatory is an EUAA obligation. He claims that the Convention’s scope regulates the exclusive agreement to the court’s selection in commercial or civil disputes. Georgia‘s ratification as binding of the Convention will lead to changes and expansions in the Civil Procedure Code and Law on Private International Law.
The convention states that the court selected by the parties has exclusive jurisdiction, and only this court can hear the dispute between the parties.
The Committee heard the report on the implementation of 2021 action plans of Georgian ministries on the rights of persons with disabilities.
As Niko Tatulashvili, adviser to Prime Minister on Human Rights issues, notes, the report’s main focus areas include the study of global practice and raising awareness, the protection of the rights to health, promoting independent living, ensuring accessibility, access to proceedings, employment promotion issues, social protection, access to the right of education, and participation in cultural and sporting events, entertainment and other public events.
The speaker spoke about the efforts that are made in both directions by municipalities and ministries.
