Anders Fogh Rasmussen tweeted that the detention of Nika Melia, leader of the United National Movement, is “very worrying”.
He called on the parties to show restraint.
“The Georgian people are the first to suffer.” I urge Georgia to be restrained and not backtrack. We stand with those who defend the rule of law in Georgia and democracy”, Rasmussen stated.
Today, a special task force arrested opposition leader Nika Melia at the United National Movement Party office.
International commentators have made a number of comments following the arrest of the leader of the largest opposition group in Georgia.
