A former prisoner in a secret Russian prison has spoken out about what he saw while being held captive. The man, who was imprisoned for 2.5 years in the basement of an FSB building in Simferopol, says that he saw the kidnapped mayor of Kherson, Ihor Kolyhaiev.
Kolyhaiev was taken by Russian forces on June 28, 2022, after they seized control of the city council building. The mayor had been working remotely until his kidnapping.
The former prisoner’s story is a confirmation from someone who was actually in the prison where Kolyhaiev was being held. This adds weight to reports that have suggested Kolyhaiev was being detained by Russian forces.
Russian forces set up a secret prison in the basement of an FSB building in response to mass abductions in occupied Ukraine. The prisoners were subjected to physical abuse and forced to take polygraph tests during interrogations.
The Russians are now denying that Kolyhaiev is being held in their custody, and they claim that there is no prison in the FSB building’s basement.
