**US Would Be Humiliated by Ukraine’s Collapse**
Former UK Foreign Secretary William Hague has warned that a collapse of Ukraine would be a bigger humiliation for the US than its withdrawal from Afghanistan. This was said in an interview on The Telegraph‘s podcast.
Hague noted that Donald Trump had previously highlighted Joe Biden‘s embarrassment over the Afghanistan withdrawal. He stated that if the US collapses in Ukraine, it will be a much greater shame for the country and its power around the world.
**Trump’s Plans Unclear**
The support of President-elect Trump for Ukraine is unclear. Analysts and politicians are trying to understand his plans to bring peace to the region. Trump had promised to end the war within “24 hours” after reelection but did not reveal details.
**US Withdrawal from Afghanistan**
The US withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021 under the Biden administration, ending a 20-year military presence. The Taliban movement quickly overtook the country soon after.
**Concerns Over Quick Settlement**
Hague expressed concern that President-elect Trump was coming into office with a strong view that the conflict could be settled quickly but on terms favoring Russia. He warned that any such settlement would only pave the way for another war, as “Putin would come back for the rest of Ukraine.”
**Support for Ukraine Remains Strong**
Kyiv’s allies are working to ensure continued support for Ukraine, even with Trump in office. Poland is coordinating with the UK to maintain this support.
