Former US, UK Officials Call for Lifting Restrictions on Ukrainian Long-Range Strikes in Russo-Ukrainian War

Russian forces have launched deadly strikes on the city of Kostiantynivka, killing three people and injuring five others. The attacks are part of their ongoing efforts to capture the city and advance towards Vuhledar, targeting from the rear.

As of September 11, 2024, their losses include 628,930 personnel, 8,642 tanks, 16,938 armored personnel vehicles, 17,936 artillery systems, 1,182 MLRS, 943 anti-aircraft systems, 368 aircraft, 328 helicopters, 14,990 UAVs, 2,591 cruise missiles, 28 warships/boats, 1 submarine, and 24,388 vehicles and fuel tanks.

In an effort to support the development of advanced defense technologies, the Brave1 defense tech cluster has increased its grants. Additionally, a recent analysis has shown that with the help of Western-supplied missiles, Ukraine could potentially strike targets up to 560 km inside Russia.

The UK has linked Russia’ GRU Unit 29155 to cyber operations supporting the invasion of Ukraine, including the WhisperGate scandal, as well as sabotage, , and assassination attempts across Europe. Meanwhile, Russia and China have been engaging in joint naval exercises, signaling closer military cooperation between the two countries.

In international news, US Secretary of Blinken has announced new aid for Ukraine, including $325 million for the sector, which has been devastated by Russian aerial strikes. The US has also pledged $290 million in humanitarian aid to support displaced civilians in Ukraine.

Recent examinations of missile remnants from attacks on Kyiv in August have revealed that North Korea continues to defy Western sanctions and supply Russia with short-range ballistic missiles. This has sparked debate about the effectiveness of NATO’s air policing mission in the Baltic region, with Lithuania calling for NATO forces to shoot down Russian drones in the region.

During a visit to Kyiv, Turkish President Erdogan surprised many by stating that must be returned to Ukraine, despite Turkey’s ties with Russia.
