**Israeli Hostage Freed from Gaza, Learns of Family’s Tragic Death**
An Israeli man, Eli Sharabi, has been freed from captivity in Gaza after 16 months. However, the good news was tinged with sadness as he learned that his wife and two daughters were killed in a Hamas attack last year.
**Family Speaks Out**
Sharabi’s relatives had been unsure whether he knew about the tragic fate of his loved ones. They have now spoken out to confirm that Sharabi was unaware of their deaths until after his release on Saturday.
“I’m so grateful to see him back, and I know how brave a man he is,” said Gill Brisley, Lianne’s mother. “We’re just trying to hold on to the happy memories we made with our family.”
**Release Amid Ceasefire Deal**
Sharabi was one of three hostages handed over by Hamas as part of an internationally brokered ceasefire deal. The release comes after Israel agreed to free 1,900 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the return of all Israeli hostages taken during the October attack.
Other released hostages have also had a difficult time adjusting to their freedom. Or Levy, another freed hostage, learned that his wife was killed by Hamas during his captivity.
**Human Toll of Conflict**
The conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in devastating losses on both sides. At least 47,500 Palestinians have been killed, and two-thirds of Gaza’s buildings have been damaged or destroyed.
