French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot made a speech at the Munich Security Conference. He was joined by other important officials, including Great Britain‘s Foreign Secretary and Germany’s Foreign Minister.
Barrot said that Europe is strong because it is democratic and free. It also has the power to protect its people. He pointed out that Europe had done well during the COVID-19 pandemic and had even resisted Russia’s invasion. Despite some setbacks, Barrot believed that Europe was still a superpower.
He also mentioned a recent investment in Paris where $300 billion was poured into developing computing capabilities in Europe. This shows that Europe is not behind other parts of the world when it comes to technology.
Barrot said that people outside of Europe want to be part of it because they see its strength and freedom. He gave the example of Ukraine, where people first waved European flags on the Maidan square as they resisted Russian invasion. Now, people in Georgia are also resisting a government that wants to take them away from the European path.
