**G7 Still Discussing Joint Statement on Ukraine Invasion**
The Group of Seven (G7) nations are having trouble agreeing on a joint statement about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This is because the US and Canada can’t agree on what to say.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that they have been working with Europeans and Americans, but still need to discuss some things. She mentioned that the US had voted against a UN resolution condemning Russia’s invasion, which made it harder for them to agree on a statement.
**US Opposes Using “Russian Aggression“**
The US doesn’t want to use the phrase “Russian aggression” in any joint G7 statement about the war. They also don‘t like some of the wording that Canada and other countries have suggested.
**US Leaders Avoid Labeling Russia as Aggressor**
The US Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, and National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, both avoided saying that Russia was the aggressor in separate interviews. Hegseth called it a “complicated situation”. The US President, Donald Trump, also didn’t label Russian President Vladimir Putin as a dictator, but did call Ukrainian President Zelensky a dictator.
