**Gaza Devastated by 15 Months of War**
A ceasefire agreement has been finalized in Qatar to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas. The war began after Hamas’s attack in October 2023, which killed 1,200 people.
**Heavy Toll on Gaza’s Population**
According to the Hamas health ministry, Israeli military actions have killed over 46,000 Palestinians. The majority of victims were women, children, and the elderly. A UN analysis estimated that this figure was as high as 70%.
**Infrastructure and Hospitals Destroyed**
The conflict has caused widespread damage to infrastructure in Gaza. An estimated 59.8% of buildings were damaged or destroyed since the war began. Key medical facilities have also been hit, with many staff killed.
**Massive Displacement**
About 90% of Gaza’s population, or 1.9 million people, have been internally displaced. Many have moved from one area to another several times. Aid delivery has decreased significantly in recent months, and some areas are experiencing acute food insecurity.
**Rebuilding Will Take Decades**
The UN estimates that it will cost $40 billion to rebuild Gaza. It may take Gazans over a decade to recover from the devastating 15-month war.
