**Nurse Saves Life of Girl **

A British nurse has spoken about the moment he saved the life of a three-year-old Palestinian girl who was shot with a bullet that had ricocheted off her mother’ body.

David Anderson, 55, from Rutland, spent six months in Gaza last year as part of the UK’s humanitarian response. He said it was a miracle that the girl, Razan, survived, as the bullet was just millimeters away from her spinal cord.

Razan was given surgery to remove the 7.92mm bullet and is now recovering fully. Mr Anderson said it took three hours to remove the bullet, which had slowed down due to passing through the mother’s body twice.

**The Story of a Family in Crisis**

The family fled their home in northern Gaza after an airstrike destroyed their apartment during the early days of the war. They had to walk over dead bodies on their way south and were displaced three times before finally reaching Mawasi, near Khan Younis.

Despite finding temporary safety, they soon realized it was not secure. The conflict in Gaza has been raging since October 7, 2023, with responding to Hamas militants’ attacks. According to Gaza’s Hamas-run ministry, over 46,000 Palestinians have been killed since then.

**Ceasefire and Humanitarian Efforts**

A ceasefire began on Sunday, which Mr Anderson called a “hugely important step towards relief for those affected”, despite being “precarious”. He praised the efforts of UK-Med, an international non-governmental humanitarian medical that he works with.

UK-Med has treated over 350,000 patients in Gaza and has launched a Middle Crisis Appeal to raise funds for their work in the region. Mr Anderson received an OBE for his services to the UK’s Health Response Overseas, acknowledging his dedication to providing aid during humanitarian crises worldwide.
