**Temporary Investigation Commission Planned for 2003-2012 Period**
Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of Georgian Dream and the party’s Parliamentary Majority Leader, announced plans to establish a temporary investigative commission. The goal is to probe alleged crimes committed by the United National Movement (UNM) government from 2003 to 2012.
**Crimes to be Investigated**
The commission will look into systemic crimes, including:
* Torture of prisoners
* Killing of individuals and violence
* Invasion of privacy
* Corruption and pressure on businesses
* Appropriation of media outlets
* The alleged acknowledgment of the start of the 2008 war
Mdinaradze emphasized that military commanders and soldiers will not be investigated regarding the 2008 war.
**Purpose of the Commission**
The commission will work for six months, summoning and questioning former regime officials and others with information about the alleged crimes. Its findings will be submitted to parliament in September, after which they will be passed on to prosecutors for further action.
**Criticism of Radical Opposition**
Mdinaradze also criticized Georgia’s “radical opposition,” claiming it is controlled by a deep state. He argued that this opposition has committed many crimes against the Georgian state and people while in power and would do so again if given the chance.
