**New Georgian Parliament Elected, Despite Legitimacy Questions**
The new parliament in Georgia has been elected, with the ruling party “Georgian Dream” dominating the proceedings. The first session of parliament was held on November 25 and only members from the Georgian Dream were present.
Despite concerns over the legitimacy of the parliament, the majority voted to elect their leaders. Shalva Papuashvili, who has been speaker since 2021, retained his position. Other notable positions also stayed with the same people, including Giorgi Volski as First Vice Speaker and Nino Tsilosani as Vice Speaker.
**Committee Chairs Elected**
The chairs of parliamentary committees were also elected. Some notable committee chairmen are:
* Gela Samkharauli – Agrarian Issues Committee
* Rati Ionatamishvili – Human Rights Committee
* Maia Bitadze – Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee
**Changes Ahead**
The Georgian Dream’s majority leader, Mamuka Mdinaradze, announced that Giorgi Kakhiani will be the head of the Legal Issues Committee for two weeks before becoming a Deputy Speaker. After that, Archil Gorduladze will take over as committee chair.
Mdinaradze also said that three high-ranking members – Bidzina Ivanishvili, Irakli Kobakhidze, and Irakli Garibashvili – will soon leave their parliamentary mandates, describing their presence on the party list as “formal.”
