**Ukraine Hits Russian Command Post**
On January 31, Ukraine’s forces hit a command post of Russia’s Kursk group in the city of Rylsk. This is according to Ukraine’s General Staff.
The attack was successful, with a statement saying that the “command and control post was destroyed”. Local Russians reported explosions in the area on Telegram channels.
**Russia’s Response**
Ukraine’s forces are trying to weaken Russia’s army by targeting key command centers. The General Staff said this is part of Ukraine’s strategy to reduce Russia’s ability to attack.
This is not the first time Ukraine has attacked in Kursk Oblast. In August 2024, Ukrainian forces captured a large area of Russian territory, but have since lost some ground. Fighting continues in the region.
**What Does This Mean?**
Ukraine hopes that by staying in the area, it will be able to negotiate a better peace deal with Russia. Last year, North Korean troops were sent to support Russia’s army in the region.
