**Ukraine Strikes Russian Command Post**
On January 2, the Ukrainian Armed Forces conducted a precision strike on a Russian army command post in Maryino, Kursk Oblast. The General Staff of Ukraine reported that this attack aimed to weaken Russia‘s ability and willingness to carry out terrorist acts against Ukrainian civilians.
The target was the 810th Russian Brigade, which suffered significant losses according to Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s counter-disinformation center. Local Telegram channels had earlier reported shelling in Ivanovskoye, causing damage to buildings and homes.
**Damage Reported**
Acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein said windows were shattered and walls were damaged by shrapnel. However, the Kyiv Independent could not verify these claims.
**Context**
This strike comes after Ukraine’s surprise incursion into Kursk Oblast on August 6, where Ukrainian forces captured about 1,300 square kilometers of territory. Although Kyiv lost control of half of this area since then, fighting remains intense in the region.
