According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched at least 4300 Shahed-type drones and other UAVs that imitated Shaheds between August 2024 and October 2024.
This is a significant increase compared to the earlier months when 1,133 drones of the type Shahed were launched from Ukraine between May and July.
October was also a record month for Russia’s drone deployments, with over 2,000 drones being launched. President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Western allies for more sanctions to be applied against the suppliers of components used in Russian Drones.

Between August and Oct., Ukrainian air forces destroyed 3,063 out of 4,300 drones. This was achieved through coordinated defense efforts, which resulted in a 71% success rate. During the same time period, the Air Force reported that 1,052 of 4,300 drones launched were “locally” lost, disappearing from radar, presumably because of electronic warfare or disruptions.
The General Staff noted only five percent of Russian Drones reached their targets during this period, although drones that are shot down by air defenses may still cause damage or destroy upon falling.
Since the fall of 2022, Russia has launched tens and thousands of cheap but highly effective drones of the type Shahed designed by Iran against Ukraine.
