**Russia Loses Thousands of Troops in Ukraine**
Russia has lost a huge number of troops, equipment, and planes since its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russia has lost:
* 842,930 troops
* 1,270 troops in just one day
* 9,938 tanks
* 20,709 armored fighting vehicles
* 35,921 vehicles and fuel tanks
* 22,655 artillery systems
* 1,269 multiple launch rocket systems
* 1,053 air defense systems
* 369 airplanes
* 331 helicopters
* 24,003 drones
* 28 ships and boats
* 1 submarine
**Changes to Russian Military Rules**
Russia’s Ministry of Defense has proposed changes to military medical examination rules. This would make it easier for people with certain health conditions like psychosis, hypertension, and syphilis to be drafted into the army.
**Ukrainian Children Return Home**
Three Ukrainian children have returned home from Russia. They include a 16-year-old girl who lost her mother, a 17-year-old boy who was summoned to join the Russian army, and an eight-year-old girl.
**US Withdraws from UN Human Rights Council**
The US is expected to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council on February 4. This comes as the country also freezes funding for the UN agency helping Palestinian refugees, UNRWA.
**UK Pledges Support to Ukraine**
The UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer has pledged to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia. He wants to “crush Putin’s war machine” and increase pressure on Russia.
