**Russia’s Losses in Ukraine**
Since February 24, 2022, Russia has lost a significant number of troops and equipment in Ukraine. According to the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Russian forces have suffered:
* 785,930 troops (including 1,730 casualties over the past day)
* 9,656 tanks
* 19,981 armored fighting vehicles
* 32,410 vehicles and fuel tanks
* 21,450 artillery systems
* 1,256 multiple launch rocket systems
* 1,032 air defense systems
* 369 airplanes
* 329 helicopters
* 21,038 drones
* 28 ships and boats
* 1 submarine
**US Citizen Classified as Wrongfully Detained**
The US government has officially classified Marc Fogel, an American schoolteacher jailed in Russia on drug charges, as wrongfully detained. This decision was made by the State Department on December 27.
**Russian News Outlets Blocked**
Several major Russian news outlets had their Telegram channels blocked across several European Union countries on December 28. Users attempting to access these channels are now seeing a notice saying that the content has been restricted and is no longer available.
**Undersea Cables Damaged in Baltic Sea**
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock warned of a growing threat to undersea cables in the Baltic Sea, stating that almost every month, ships are damaging important cables. This has resulted in approximately 40% of fuel oil potentially leaking into the sea.
