Six days before the crucial Georgian parliamentary elections, Georgians gathered in Tbilisi for a rally entitled “Georgia Chooses EU”. The rally was held to show the world Georgians’ commitment to voting pro-Western on October 26. The rally began with a walk from five different places in Tbilisi. Crowds then converged on Freedom Square. The night began with a concert of popular Georgian musicians, followed by speeches from CSO representatives and activists. According to different estimates, between 90,000 and 100,000 people attended the rally.
Salome Zurabishvili addressed the crowd from the stage. She emphasized the importance of the elections for Georgia and the rally. She also addressed her Moldovan counterparts, wishing Maia Sandu a victory and a successful vote on EU membership. And she addressed Volodymir Zelenskyy by saying that Georgians knew that he was fighting for Georgians, too, and would prevail. She expressed her hopes that the three countries would join the EU together.
Guram Muradov, Civil.ge’s Guram Muadov, captured the memorable moments of the rally.
