Bidzina Ivanishvili, the honorary chairman of the “Georgian Dream” party, has released new information about a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to Ivanishvili, Macron discussed the release of detainees during their conversation. However, Ivanishvili explained that Georgia is a country where the law is followed and people who break the law are held accountable.
Ivanishvili also said that the police in Georgia acted against violent protesters with a higher standard than what is allowed in Europe. He added that an investigation has been started into individual cases of misconduct by police officers.
A previous statement from “Georgian Dream” had reported on the phone call between Ivanishvili and Macron. It mentioned that the French President initiated the call, which lasted for one hour. The conversation covered the situation in Georgia and both leaders agreed to stay in touch over the next few days.
Ivanishvili thanked Macron for his interest in helping to resolve the situation in Georgia. Both men agreed to evaluate progress made in future conversations.
