Irakli Garibashvili is the Prime Minister of Georgia and he is on an official visit to Azerbaijan. The first official meeting took place with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan in the Zagulba Presidential Palace, Baku.
The government administration reports that both sides focused on the strategic relationship and friendly relations between two countries, and highlighted the successful regional projects implemented through joint effort.
“Mr. Welcome, Mr. Prime Minister. We are delighted to see you. I am confident that this visit will be a great success and will strengthen our relationship with our brothers from the historical foundations. Our brotherly relationship dates back centuries. It is a good basis for our relationship which is dynamic and covers many fields.
We are delighted by your visit. I wish you good health. I know that you were infected by the coronavirus, and we had to delay the visit. I’m glad to hear you are recovering quickly.
“We have a long history of implementing projects together, including in energy and transport. These projects have transformed the political, economic, and transport situations in the region.
These projects would not have existed without strong partnerships between our two countries.
“The last day last year coincided the last day the Southern Gas Pipeline Project was implemented, which is of great significance not only for development of the Caucasus, but also for the region as a whole, for stability, predictability, and cooperation. All of this would not have been possible without our cooperation.
“We thank Georgia for its continued assistance in the implementation of our projects. All these initiatives have been a success in our history. I am confident that it will continue into the future. I just checked some data and discovered that Azerbaijan remains one of the largest investors in Georgian economy. This is a testament to the reforms that have been implemented in the country. They have created a favorable and positive investment climate. I know that there are many Azerbaijani firms that want to work in the country, and I hope this will happen.
“Today, we will review our results and plan the next steps.” Ilham Aliyev said, “I welcome you back to Azerbaijan and wish you the best.”
The Head of Government of Georgia thanked President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, for his hospitality, and invited him to visit Georgia at a time convenient to him.
“Thank you for the meeting, Mr. Presiden! It’s great to see you again in Baku. We had to postpone our visit due to an infection with coronavirus, but we’re glad to be here in Baku now.
“You mentioned that our relationship is wonderful and that it has lasted over centuries. I would like you to remember the words of your father who said in Tbilisi that our neighborhood is destined for us. Our destiny is the neighborhood of Georgians and Azerbaijanis. We are therefore interconnected and interdependent.
“As you said, we have implemented historical and important projects. We will continue to work together on more projects, which will strengthen our relationship. Thank you for welcoming our official Baku delegation. Irakli Garibashvili: “I want to take this opportunity to invite you to Tbilisi whenever it is convenient for you.”
Garibashvili will also meet Prime Minister Ali Asadov of Azerbaijan and Sahiba Gafarova is the Deputy and Chairperson of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.
Davit Zalkaliani, Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs, is accompanying the official delegation.
