The Georgian women‘s national football team has reached the playoffs in the qualifying stage for the European Championship.
Iris Antman‘s team won the final group match with a minimal score. Maiko Bebia scored the winner in the 88th minutes of the match, with an 11-meter strike.
The Georgian team finished with 10 points in the group stage and was placed in the top 3 for the second place at the selection stage.
The two-round playoff matches are scheduled to take place in the fall. The playoffs will see 28 teams from the A, B, and C leagues compete for 7 European Championship tickets.
Iris Antman, head coach of the women’s team: “We met Lithuania four times and had the experience of losing or drawing with them. I am happy that we won this time. Anyone who watched the game would be proud of our squad. The match started badly, but I think the players were determined to win the second half.
“I am proud of our players. They worked hard to achieve this success.
“I would like to thank all the fans who have always attended our matches. I was confident that we would be successful and I’m glad we were.
“Everything is in front of us, we have an excellent generation in the National Team, which needs to be supported. I am happy that the Football Federation supports us and the players. “I am proud to be Georgian today,” said she.
