Reuters reported that French president Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had discussed their concerns about Georgia’s political scene. In a statement released under the Weimar Triangle the leaders stated they could not support the negotiations regarding Georgia’s EU Integration without concrete reforms.
The statement stated that “if Georgia does not change course and show a real commitment to reforms – particularly by repealing recent laws that conflict with European values – we cannot endorse the opening of EU accession talks with Georgia.”
The leaders stressed that in order for Georgia to make progress towards EU membership, it must align its legislation to European standards and values.
