**Georgia’s Foreign Trade Increases by 8% in 2024**
The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) has released preliminary data on the country’s foreign trade for 2024. According to the report, Georgia’s foreign trade increased by 8.0% compared to 2023, reaching a total value of $23.43 billion.
**Exports and Imports**
In 2024, exports from Georgia rose by 7.8% to $6.56 billion, while imports increased by 8.1% to $16.87 billion. The negative trade balance was $10.31 billion in 2024, making up 44% of the country’s external trade turnover.
**Top Trading Partners**
The top ten trading partners for Georgia’s imports accounted for 69.9% of the total imports in 2024. The main importers were Turkey ($2.77 billion), the USA ($2.04 billion), and Russia ($1.84 billion). For exports, the top ten trading partners made up 81.5% of the total exports, with Kyrgyzstan ($1.28 billion), Kazakhstan ($860 million), and Azerbaijan ($720 million) leading the list.
**Top Export and Import Items**
In 2024, motor cars were Georgia’s top export item, making up $2.43 billion or 37% of total exports. Ferro-alloys came second with $320 million (4.9%), followed by spirituous beverages at $290 million (4.4%). For imports, motor cars led the list with $3.46 billion (20.5%), followed by petroleum and petroleum oils ($1.30 billion or 7.7%) and medicaments put up in measured doses ($620 million or 3.7%).
