**Georgia’s Minister Appoints Sanctioned Official as Deputy**
The Minister of Internal Affairs in Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri, has appointed Shalva Tadumadze as his Deputy. However, this decision is already being questioned due to Tadumadze’s own past controversies and sanctions.
**Who is Shalva Tadumadze?**
Tadumadze is a Supreme Court judge elected for life in 2019. Before that, he was the Chief Prosecutor of Georgia from 2018-2019 and head of the government administration during the same period. He has also worked as a lawyer for Bidzina Ivanishvili, a wealthy Georgian businessman.
**A Clouded Past**
Tadumadze’s past is marred by controversy. A document certifying his education was questioned for its authenticity. Transparency International-Georgia raised doubts about the diploma, which stated that Tadumadze entered an institution in 1993, even though it wasn’t founded until 1994.
**Sanctions from Lithuania**
Tadumadze has been sanctioned by Lithuania for undermining democracy in Georgia. On December 15 of this year, Lithuania imposed sanctions on him and other Georgian individuals for their role in suppressing peaceful protests, journalists, and opposition figures.
