Georgia’s opposition rejects the results of parliamentary elections as pro-Russian ruling parties claim victory with 54%

Opposition parties refuses to acknowledge results, plans protests and cites systematic violations as well as unprecedented pressure on voters.
According to Georgia’s Central Election Commission, the pro- ruling has claimed victory at the 26 October parliamentary election, having secured more than 54% votes. The official results are significant departure from the pre-election polls as well as opposition exit polls.
The ruling Georgian Dream Party is trying to cement the pro-Russian policy of the country, which it has pursued ever since it came into power. The EU has suspended contact with Georgia after the government adopted Russian-style laws on “foreign agents”, “family values”, and “foreign agents”. This has halted the country’s path towards EU .
According to polls conducted before the election, Georgian Dream would receive % of the votes, and the combined pro-European parties were expected to secure a majority parliament. The polls showed that:
* Coalition for Change: 19%
* Unity (National Movement Agmashenebeli Strategy, ) : 16%
* Strong Georgia (Lelo For the People , Citizens, Freedom Square): 9%
* Gakharia: For Georgia 8%
* Girchi (Iago Khvichia): %
* Other Parties: 10%
