**Foreign Direct Investment in Georgia Drops**
In the third quarter of 2024, foreign direct investment (FDI) in Georgia reached USD 197.7 million. This is a decrease of 55.2% compared to the same period last year.
According to preliminary data from the National Statistics Office (Geostat), the main reason for this drop is a decrease in equity and reinvestment by investors. Fewer debt instruments were also used, contributing to the low level of FDI.
**Where Did the Money Come From?**
The Netherlands was the top foreign investor, with USD 60.2 million invested in Georgia (30.4% of total investment). Malta followed with USD 58.3 million (29.5%), and the United Kingdom had USD 55 million (27.8%). These three countries accounted for 87.7% of all investments.
**What Was Invested In?**
The manufacturing sector attracted the most FDI, with USD 63.6 million (32.2%) invested. The energy sector followed with USD 43 million (21.8%), and trade was third with USD 32.1 million (16.2%).
