**German Embassy Criticizes Georgian Government**
The German Embassy in Georgia has spoken out against the government’s treatment of protesters. In a statement, the embassy said that it appears people exercising their fundamental rights are being intimidated.
The embassy highlighted the importance of equal treatment for demonstrators and law enforcement officials. It also stressed that no serious investigation into state structures‘ violations has been conducted.

The embassy is particularly concerned about the health of Mzia Amaghlobeli, a journalist who remains in detention despite her deteriorating health. She has been on hunger strike for 32 days to protest against the crackdown on dissent by the Georgian Dream party.
**Background: Georgia’s Democratic Decline**
Georgia’s democratic decline led Germany to suspend development cooperation with the country in December 2024. The German Foreign Ministry also imposed travel bans on nine people accused of violence against peaceful demonstrators.
