Germany Stops Working with Georgia‘s Education Ministry
The German government is stopping its work with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport in Georgia. This decision was made because Georgia has been moving away from the European path.
A statement from the German Embassy in Georgia says that Germany will not work with Georgian institutions until they take steps to calm things down inside the country, restore academic freedom, and join Europe again.
The German government wants Georgia to protect its researchers’ freedom. They say that scientists should be able to do their work without fear of punishment.
Germany still supports students who want to study in Germany. This is because student exchanges between the two countries help make them closer friends.
The German government also wants to continue working with Georgian scientists and supporting projects they are involved in. This will show people who support a European Georgia that they have support from abroad.
