German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is going to China. She will talk to Chinese leaders about their support for Russia.
Baerbock’s visit comes at a time when German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is visiting Ukraine. He has promised the Ukrainian government 650 million euros in military aid.
Baerbock said that instead of helping keep the peace, China is undermining European interests by giving money and goods to Russia. This is making tensions between Germany and China higher.
China’s actions are also being criticized by other countries. They say that China is sending important parts and equipment to help Russia fight its war. NATO officials have said that China is playing a big role in the conflict.
The G7 has also spoken out against China’s actions. They have condemned China for trying to help Russia rebuild its military. The European Union is preparing sanctions against China.
Baerbock said that Germany cannot ignore China’s actions. She plans to tell Chinese leaders that they are not helping keep the peace as a member of the UN Security Council. This could lead to a tense meeting between Baerbock and Chinese officials.
Scholz is also visiting Ukraine, where he has promised more military aid. Norway and Germany have given money to help Ukrainian businesses with energy.
