The Embassy of Germany Tbilisi issued a press release announcing the German government will allocate a grant of three million Euros to Georgia. This money will be used to help families affected by the Covid Pandemic.
The statement noted that, on November 30, the Minister for Finance of Georgia Lasha Khutsishvili signed an agreement with the Head of South Caucasus Office at the German Reconstruction Credit Bank KfW, Birgit HolderiedKress. This grant of EUR3 million will be used to provide social protection for families affected by the Covid Pandemic.
This grant will be added to the aid that Germany already provided to fight the pandemic in the past year. It consisted of a grant worth EUR 5,8 million and a low interest loan of EUR 15 millions. This assistance was intended to help alleviate the financial consequences for families in Georgia that lost their income because of the Covid pandemic.
The additional amount will be used to fund more than 135 000 payments for families who are socially vulnerable. The loan issued in 2020 will allow for more than 280 000 payments of unemployment benefits. This support will not only contribute to the social security of many families, but also to strengthening the social protection system.
