**Germany Open to Participating in Ukraine Peacekeeping Force**
On March 27, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius signaled that Germany is open to participating in a peacekeeping force in Ukraine. This comes after previous mixed signals from the government regarding its participation.
Pistorius was accompanied by Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur during his visit to Berlin. When asked about Germany’s potential involvement in a peacekeeping force, Pistorius said that he couldn’t imagine any situation where Germany wouldn’t be participating in negotiations for a ceasefire or peace.
However, Pistorius also noted that many details regarding a peacekeeping force still need to be agreed upon. He urged caution in making public commitments while a potential ceasefire is still being negotiated.
**Europe Should Have a Seat at Peace Negotiations**
Pistorius also called for Europe to have a seat at peace negotiations. However, he didn’t expect the US to include Ukraine’s European allies in the talks. He expressed skepticism about the US allowing this, saying that there was no signal from Washington indicating they would let Europe join the table.
This comes after Pistorius criticized US President Donald Trump’s phone call to Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 18. Pistorius described Putin as “playing a game” and said he believed the American president wouldn’t be able to stand by and watch for long without reacting.
