**Germany Sanctions Georgian Dream Officials**
The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced further entry bans on officials from the ruling party, Georgian Dream. This decision was made on March 24.
These officials are responsible for cracking down on pro-European Union protesters in Georgia. The protests have been going on for several months and involve people who want a future in the EU and oppose the current leadership of Georgia.
The protesters face intimidation, arrests, and violence. The German Ministry has added new sanctions to those already introduced in December 2024. In that month, Germany banned nine people from entering the country because they were primarily responsible for violence against protesters and opposition members.
In addition to these individual bans, Germany has also stopped approving any new development cooperation projects with Georgia. This means that no new loans or agreements will be signed between Germany and Georgia.
Other countries have also sanctioned Georgian Dream officials, including Czechia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, the UK, and the US.
