According to Spiegel, Berlin officials have announced plans to host a meeting with leaders from France, the UK, and the US in Berlin to discuss support for Ukraine. The meeting, which will take place from October 10 to 12, will coincide with Joe Biden‘s visit to Germany, less than a month before the US presidential election.
The purpose of the meeting, known as the “quartet” format, will be to address issues related to supporting Ukraine. This visit will mark Biden’s second trip to Germany as US President, but his first official state visit. His previous visit was in 2022 for the G7 summit in Elmau, Bavaria.
The timing of this meeting is significant, as it highlights the importance of transatlantic relations and the ongoing support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. During his recent address to the UN General Assembly, Biden reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Ukraine until victory is achieved in the war against Russia. This upcoming meeting in Germany appears to be a continuation of that commitment, bringing together key European allies to coordinate their efforts.
The three invitees – Germany, France, and the UK – represent the three largest economies in Europe and are also key members of NATO. This demonstrates the importance of their involvement in discussions related to supporting Ukraine.
