Members of the United National Movement (UNM) refuse to submit asset declarations. They claim that they are not Members of Parliament because they don’t recognize the legitimacy of the current parliament.
Gia Japaridze, a UNM member, said that he received a call from someone claiming to be from the Anti-Corruption Bureau. The caller asked him to fill out a declaration as a Member of Parliament. But Japaridze refused, saying that he had already resigned his mandate and doesn’t consider himself an MP.
Japaridze explained that he doesn’t attend parliament sessions, don’t receive a salary, and haven’t taken the oath as a Member of Parliament. He considers the current parliament illegitimate because of the rigged October 26 elections.
The UNM members are following Japaridze’s lead and refusing to submit asset declarations. They argue that it’s unreasonable for them to do so since they don’t recognize the legitimacy of the parliament.
