Expert Gia Khukhashvili talks about the opposition’s role in the 64-day protest in Georgia. He says that the protest needs a leader and that the opposition should be on the frontlines.
Khukhashvili spoke on PalitraNews‘ program “360 Degrees”. He emphasized that unity is good, but the protest needs someone to lead it. He thinks that this leader should be from politics. The current leaders are not accepted by the protesters, so they need to find a way to connect with them and take their place.
Khukhashvili said that politicians should show themselves on the frontlines, especially during actions like blocking highways. They should come forward and be willing to get arrested if needed. If they fail to do this, it will help Bidzina Ivanishvili’s side, which is not good for the country.
He also talked about the upcoming spring parliamentary session and a proposal to create a temporary investigative commission regarding crimes committed under the United National Movement (UNM) government. Khukhashvili thinks that this is just an attempt by Georgian Dream to shift the blame onto UNM, saying “I’m a bad guy, but remember, before me, there was someone even worse.”
Khukhashvili recalled a conversation with Bidzina Ivanishvili from 2012, where he proposed issuing a political verdict against UNM. However, Ivanishvili was not interested in reconciliation and refused the proposal, saying it would benefit Misha Saakashvili.
