Opposition Politician Reacts to Ex-President’s Sentence
Georgian opposition politician Gigi Ugulava has spoken out against the sentencing of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili. Judge Badri Kochlamazashvili sentenced Saakashvili to 9 years in prison for embezzling a large amount of budget funds.
Ugulava thinks that Ivanishvili, the man who created the Georgian Dream government, set a standard for others. He believes that if this standard is used, many members of the current government will be imprisoned. “All ministers of the Georgian Dream will be imprisoned according to the standard that Ivanishvili created,” Ugulava said.
He also criticized the Georgian Dream government for not being transparent about their expenses. Ugulava thinks that once these expenses are made public, Ivanishvili could face up to 11 years in prison by the same standards used against Saakashvili.
Ugulava also mentioned Prime Minister Gharibashvili and said he will be sentenced to 10 years in prison if the same standard is applied.
