**Former CEO Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison**
A court has found Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former CEO of a co-investment fund, guilty of misappropriating cryptocurrency belonging to Bidzina Ivanishvili. The founder of “Georgian Dream” was the victim.
The court ruled that Bachiashvili took $536,900 from Ivanishvili’s investment, and kept 8,986 bitcoins for himself. At the time, the bitcoins were worth about $43 million. This crime carries a sentence of 9 to 12 years in prison.
**Judge Makes Decision**
Judge Giorgi Gelashvili made the decision after finding Bachiashvili guilty on both charges: misappropriation and legalization of illegal income. The judge sentenced him to 10 years for misappropriation, but 11 years for legalizing the money. Since the longer sentence takes priority, Bachiashvili will serve 11 years.
**Three Cases Against Bachiashvili**
Bachiashvili faces charges in three separate cases. A verdict was made in one case today, and he has been sentenced to pretrial detention in absentia for two others. In the first case, he was initially released on bail of 2,500,000 GEL, but it was later changed to pretrial detention.
**Additional Charges**
Bachiashvili is also charged with failing to do his duties properly, which carries a sentence of 2-5 years in prison. He has been placed in pretrial detention for this charge as well. Additionally, he faces charges related to crossing Georgia’s state border illegally.
