Giorgi Gakharia of the “Gakharia “, a party that is opposed to the ruling “Georgian Dream”, has criticized their foreign policy and warned that their actions will steer away from Integration, leaving it in “the swamps of provincialism”.
Gakharia expressed frustration at the way “Georgian Dream’s” foreign policy is handled, pointing out how even the party’s honorary chairperson, , seems overly excited to secure a meeting scheduled weeks in advance with the US ambassador. “They brought him [Ivanishvili] up to the point that he was happy when the US ambassador scheduled a two- or three-week-later meeting and he’s happy–absolutely!” Very cool progress! If they continue to move at this pace, they won’t bring us into the European Union. They will leave us in a swamp of provincialism,” Gakharia said.
Gakharia also addressed speculation surrounding the potential re- Donald in the US. He said that this could spell danger for the “Georgian Dream.” He dismissed the idea that Trump’s possible victory would benefit the ruling parties, calling it a “myth” intended to appeal its supporters.
“If the is elected, it will be much more difficult for ‘Georgian Dream ‘…. The idea that someone was waiting for Trump’s win is a myth that they are trying sell to ordinary ,” explained Gakharia.
Gakharia’s comments come amid growing concern about Georgia’s slow pace of integration into the European Union. He criticised “Georgian Dream”, which he said celebrated minimal diplomatic achievements, and warned that the lack of an effective foreign policy by the will hinder Georgia’s European ambitions.
