**Opposition Leader Demands Transparency from Government**
The leader of the “Gakharia for Georgia” opposition movement, Giorgi Gakharia, has called on the ruling party, “Georgian Dream“, to make public the lists of voters who participated in the recent elections. This demand is part of an effort to resolve a dispute over the legitimacy of the election.
According to Gakharia, making the voter lists public would put an end to the current crisis and provide clarity on whether the election was free and fair or not. He noted that international observers have criticized the election process and questioned its legitimacy.
Gakharia stated that his movement first requested the “Georgian Dream” party to release the voter information, but received no response. They then took the matter to court, seeking protection for the equipment on which the information is stored. However, a representative of the Central Election Commission (CEC) appeared in court and claimed that a criminal investigation had been launched, resulting in the seizure of the equipment.
This move by the CEC has led Gakharia to accuse the government of trying to conceal the truth about the election process. He argued that making the voter lists public or providing access to them would allow citizens to verify whether their votes were counted correctly and ensure that the election was fair.
**CEC’s Response Sparks Suspicion**
Gakharia expressed his disappointment with the CEC’s actions, saying that instead of cooperating, they used a “fake” criminal case to confiscate the equipment. He stated that this move has left the CEC without access to the information, and full responsibility for the matter now rests with the prosecutor’s office.
