**Vashadze Challenges Tsulukiani to Appear Before Parliament**
In a recent interview, Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the “Strategy Aghmashenebeli” party, called on Tea Tsulukiani, the leader of Georgia’s temporary investigative commission, to appear before parliament and answer questions about the country’s current political situation.
Vashadze made his comments during a program on PalitraNews, in response to being summoned to testify before the commission. He argued that the commission is illegitimate because it was formed without the participation of opposition parties, which he claims is unconstitutional.
**A Commission to Distract from Crisis**
According to Vashadze, the main goal of the commission is to distract attention away from the severe economic and political crisis facing Georgia. “They’re trying to silence TV stations and fight against citizens, media, and NGOs,” he said. “If they weren’t afraid of people, would they be doing this?”
**Sanctions a Serious Blow**
Vashadze also commented on recent sanctions imposed by the UK on heads of Georgia’s law enforcement agencies. He described these sanctions as a “serious blow” to the ruling Georgian Dream party and noted that British authorities are taking a more severe stance than their US counterparts.
“The issue of sanctioning Ivanishvili and Rukhadze is already on the table in the UK,” Vashadze said, referring to key figures in the Georgian Dream party. “These British sanctions are even stronger because Georgian banks are represented there.”
**Catastrophic Week for Georgian Dream**
This week has been a difficult one for the Georgian Dream party, with Vashadze labeling it as “catastrophic”. He pointed out that the party failed to attend the April 9 memorial, which he saw as a moral collapse. This, in his view, reflects the party’s inability to speak to the families of political prisoners and their failure to address the country’s economic and political crisis.
**Warning of Chaos if Opposition is Arrested**
In a more ominous tone, Vashadze warned that if the entire opposition were arrested, it could lead to chaos. “Would anyone even need to ask whether sanctions are justified?” he asked. “Arresting an active politician would create huge resonance… and the economy would collapse.”
