Lithuanian President Visits Neighbors, Talks of Georgia Trip
The presidents of Lithuania and two other Baltic countries met in Klaipeda. They discussed the situation in Georgia.
Georgia was invaded by Russia in 2008. The country’s people came together to resist. Now, some Georgian society is divided. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda spoke about this at a press conference.
He said he condemns the way some Georgian officials talk about joining Europe. Joining Europe is written into Georgia’s Constitution. This makes it hard for Lithuania and other EU countries to understand. They think it’s against the law.
The Lithuanian president also talked about violence in Georgia. He supports putting sanctions on the country if they keep acting this way. Sanctions are punishments that can be put on a country by another country or group of countries.
Gitanas Nauseda said he and other presidents might visit Georgia in December. They will discuss this with Polish President Andrzej Duda. The Lithuanian president thinks it’s better to act together when dealing with problems like the ones in Georgia.
He plans to talk about these issues at a meeting of EU leaders soon.
