**Serbian Citizens Demand EU to Block Lithium Mining Project**
A group called Go-Change has submitted a petition with over 300,000 signatures to the European Union delegation in Belgrade. The petition is against the Jadar lithium mining project in Serbia.
The leader of Go-Change, Savo Manojlovic, said that the project goes against fundamental European values such as democracy and environmental standards. He added that it’s a message to the EU that Serbian citizens will decide what happens in their country, not Brussels.
Manojlovic emphasized that the signatures on the petition mean that no one will mine lithium in Serbia. The movement has been active since 2021, with protests, blockades, and petitions against the project.
At the entrance of the EU delegation building, activists displayed banners written in English. One banner directed a message to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, suggesting she leave lithium and democracy to Serbian citizens.
