**Ukraine’s Power Grid at Risk**
Greenpeace has warned that Ukraine’s power grid is in danger of a major failure. This comes after Russia launched a massive attack on Nov. 17, targeting electrical substations used by nuclear power plants.
The strike was part of Russia’s strategy to weaken Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Experts say disrupting the power supply to these facilities could lead to severe safety risks.
**Nuclear Power Plants Affected**
The three remaining Ukraine-run nuclear power plants were hit in the attack: Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, and South Ukraine. While the reactors themselves were not directly damaged, Greenpeace claims that the damage to substations could destabilize the grid and lead to dangerous shutdowns at the nuclear sites.
**IAEA Confirms Damage**
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that trunk power lines connecting the substations to the nuclear plants were severed. Explosions were reported near the Khmelnytskyi plant, causing six of nine reactors to operate at reduced capacity by Nov. 17.
**Widespread Impact**
Russia launched around 210 missiles and drones during the attack, causing “serious damage” to thermal power plants and triggering nationwide electricity rationing. Ukraine’s largest private energy company, DTEK, called the assault one of the most destructive to date.
