**Georgian Politician Grigol Gegelia Slams Giorgi Gakharia for Appearing Before Investigative Commission**
In a fiery response to the appearance of former Interior and Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia before an investigative commission, Georgian politician Grigol Gegelia labeled the commission a “farce” and accused Gakharia of showing double standards.
During an appearance on Palitranews‘ program Daily Newsroom, Gegelia argued that Gakharia made a fundamental mistake by participating in the commission, which is seen as illegitimate by many opposition leaders. Gegelia called it a “commission of complete lies” and said it was shameful for Gakharia to have participated.
Gegelia also took aim at Sozar Subari, a representative of the ruling party Georgian Dream, who is leading the commission. He accused Subari of being a “political prostitute” who has had relationships with every regime in Georgia since the 1990s.
**The Commission: A Joke or a Threat?**
Gegelia argued that no action can legitimize an illegitimate commission, and that Gakharia’s participation was a sign of fear. He claimed that many politicians have put aside personal concerns to maintain stability in the country, but that this should not come at the cost of integrity.
When questioned by Berdia Sichinava, a representative of Georgian Dream, about why opposition figures attend pro–government courts if they don’t recognize the commission, Gegelia responded by saying it was demagoguery. He argued that people still act within the framework of the state, even if it’s ill and infected with authoritarianism.
**The Future of the Resistance Platform**
Gegelia also commented on the future of the “Resistance Platform,” a coalition of opposition parties led by Gakharia’s party. Gegelia claimed that Gakharia’s team had consistently acted to prevent unity among the opposition, and that nothing new has happened since Gakharia’s appearance before the commission.
**Georgian Dream Playing with Fire**
Finally, Gegelia slammed Georgian Dream for extending the deadline of the commission, which they claim will delay efforts to ban the “Collective United National Movement” before local elections. He accused them of playing with the fate of the country and its political system, and said that their actions were a sign of their lack of principles or state ethics.
**New Parliamentary Elections on the Horizon?**
Gegelia concluded by confidently stating that new parliamentary elections will be announced and held this year, despite Georgian Dream’s attempts to delay them.
