Government Fails to Help People in Snow Crisis
The government’s response to the heavy snowfall in Georgia has been called a failure by the country‘s Foreign Secretary. Grigol Gegelia said on Palitra News that the state is unprepared for natural disasters and doesn’t know how to manage crises.
“This is a lack of planning,” he said. “We don’t have helicopters, tractors can’t get through, and rescuers can’t reach people. Nobody knows what to do in times of crisis.”
Gegelia was critical of the government’s handling of the situation. He said that it had shown incompetence time and again in dealing with natural disasters.
The snow has caused many problems in Georgia. Some areas have lost phone service, and parents are struggling to feed their babies because they don’t have food. Gegelia said that the government should be held accountable for these failures.
“It didn’t take four days to deploy the army,” he said. “They can’t buy a helicopter, they couldn’t set up an early warning system.”
Gegelia also attacked the government’s record on other issues. He mentioned the Vere Gorge disaster and the Shovi landslide, saying that the government had failed in both cases.
